  1. Congratulations to Police Lieutenant Phil Mancini, who just retired after 26 years in law enforcement! Starting at the San Jose Police Department in 1995, Mancini has been with Roseville Police Department since 2005. He has led the department's Professional Standards Unit for the past two years and was instrumental in the Field Training Officer (FTO) program, training new officers in Roseville. (RPD Facebook)
  2. A new development in West Roseville offers single-family detached rental homes for those who want the privacy of a "house" without the stresses of home ownership. Cyrene at Fiddyment has 152 units of two-story homes with four distinct floorplan designs that are energy efficient (with solar and a 220 volt outlet in the garage for electric vehicles) and include internet in the rent. Arizona-based developer Curve Development also looks to build two similar developments in Sacramento and Lincoln in the upcoming year. (Roseville Today)
  3. Volunteerism has a funny way of not only helping those in need, but also transforming those who offer the help. Local non-profit organization Shine With Purpose empowers local youth to serve people in need in Sacramento, Placer and El Dorado counties through targeted projects and by partnering with other organizations. "When the kids lead, they have more buy-in to serve their community," says founder Mindy Mohlenbrook, who started Shine as a way to broaden the community perspective of her own children. (Gold Country Media)
  4. Sacramento County is recommending all residents wear masks in public indoor settings to curb the "drastic" rise in COVID-19 Delta variant cases. The local county health office has confirmed 101 cases of the highly contagious, and more virulent, variant so far. Yolo County has issued a similar advisory. (Sacramento Bee)
  5. BARC is back at Sacramento International Airport! BARC (Boarding Area Relaxation Corps) is that amazing program that provides cheerful, therapeutic doggos to stressed-out travelers while they wait in the airport. Look for those wagging tails the next time you feel like taking a bite out of a fellow passenger. Who's a good boy? These pups are! (SacCounty.net)
