Here are the top four stories today in Roseville:
- If you’re awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to fraud, maybe don’t commit more fraud. Kevin Lee Co, 51, of Rocklin is going to spend the next 10 years in the slammer for his sins. Co plead guilty to embezzling $4.8 million from his employer Holt of California on Dec. 8, 2016. Then, when we was awaiting sentencing on those charges, he defrauded the U.S. government by applying for a PPP loan without disclosing his guilty plea on wire fraud and money laundering charges. Yeah, I could see the guy granting the loans frowning on those activities. The big winner in all of this? The “Game of War” online video game. The dude spent $1 million of his take on in-game purchases. (Gold Country Media)
- Updates to local and commuter transit routes were approved by City Council at the August 17 meeting. These changes go into effect on Monday, August 22. Printed guides will be available in the coming weeks. Watch for copies in the on-board kiosks and at the Alternative Transportation office, Roseville Sports Center and Maidu Community Center. You can also view the Local Bus Services Guide and the Commuter Bus Services Guide for the changes. (roseville.ca.us)
- Roseville City Councilmember Scott Alvord helped us understand why the city is removing a dam in our area and why the new "diversion facility" has benefits for the wildlife we love. Don't worry! he said, it's "absolutely" the right thing to do to remove a dam, even in these drought conditions. We'll still get water where we need it and the salmon will thank us. See his commentary on the situation in this Gold Country Media article. (Gold Country Media)
- At approximately 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Roseville police officers responded to a business in the 4000 Block of Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard for reports of an assault. When they got there they learned that a contractor had attacked a supervisor with a knife. The victim was treated at a hospital and released. The assailant was arrested in Sacramento County and booked into South Placer County Jail on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon. He's being held without bail. (Facebook.com)
