Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- Roseville is getting a new youth sports complex! The City Council approved a $35 million master plan for a youth sports complex in West Roseville at its meeting on Wednesday night. According to KCRA3, "the latest plan would create a 51-acre Regional Sports Complex in West Roseville that would include 10 lighted fields, a playground, misting cooling system and electric vehicle charging stations." Youth sports tourism will be a big economic draw for the city and it is a resilient source of income even in an economic downturn. (KCRA Sacramento)
- A Roseville woman has died after sustaining major injuries in a crash in Meeks Bay on the West shore of Lake Tahoe. The incident took place at 1:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, on State Route 89 at Rubicon Drive. Jane Park, 66, was a passenger in the vehicle that crashed. Jong Park, 75, was driving the vehicle when it left the road and collided with a mile marker. He and 44-year-old Young Park sustained minor injuries in the crash. Jane Park was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries several days later. (Sierra Sun)
- If you like chicken and waffles, you'll love a new restaurant that is coming to Roseville. Cluck N Cone has six different varieties of chicken to choose from, all served in a waffle cone. The restaurant will open at 1485 Eureka Road in the same center as Brickyard Kitchen & Bar. The soft opening will be Friday and Saturday. August 27 will be the grand opening. The eatery will also be offering Gunther's ice cream including strawberry, chocolate, vanilla and a flavor of the week. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- Hot Chili and Cool Cars is coming to Quarry Park in Rocklin for the 29th time on September 17. There will be a much-anticipated chili cook-off as well as some cool rides to check out. "Hot Chili & Cool Cars is a community celebration, where people can enjoy great food, head-turning cars and live entertainment while also helping a local nonprofit,” said Tiffany Neilson, Rocklin Chamber of Commerce. The event is free and a great way to spend a Saturday with your family. (Roseville Today)
- You know your kids like rainbows. So do the fentanyl pushers. There's a new rainbow-colored fentanyl that authorities are warning may be marketed to minors. “To be clear, all fentanyl purchased on the street is deadly, no matter the color, shape, size or form,” said Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire in a statement, “Yet we find this rainbow-colored substance is one of the many tools that dealers are using to make the poison appeal to our kids. ... We will continue to hold dealers accountable but really the messages have to start with the parents and the kids and have discussions about what’s affecting kids and what’s creating the desire to experiment with ultimately deadly street drugs."
