Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- Mayor Krista Bernasconi sat down with KFBK News Radio’s Kitty O’Neal on Monday to talk about how Roseville is weathering the pandemic. The mayor highlighted how, despite the quarantine challenges of the past two years, our city is at an all-time low for industrial vacancies as new business come into town. Roseville also continues to make several “Best Places to Live” lists across many demographics. Bernasconi pointed out some of the new development happening, mostly in West Roseville, and the city's continued planning to keep our older corridors vital. - Want to get smart? Two institutions of higher learning are moving into South Placer County. California State University, Sacramento (my alma mater!) will open a satellite campus in the unincorporated Sunset Area between Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln. The Sacramento State Placer Center will have close ties with Sierra College in Rocklin with a transfer center on the campus and a co-enrollment system. Hillsdale College, a private, Christian liberal arts university based in Michigan, will occupy space in the Regional University project area west of Roseville. (Roseville Press Tribune)
- Two Lincoln natives and a Cameron Park dude are touring around impersonating rock music’s iconic ZZ Top with their tribute band, ZZ Tush. Formed eight years ago, this band has everything needed to pay homage to that “little band out of Texas” – the musical talent, microphones and guitars designed by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top and, of course, the beards. Band members Ed Koop, “Jersey” John Roshe and Dan Monaghan rehearse in the warehouse of Koop’s Alpha Dog ADA Signs in Roseville. Read more about the band and be sure to catch one of their local gigs coming up in Auburn and Sacramento before they head out to the rest of the country. (Gold Country Media and ZZ Tush Facebook)
- Your bacon and pulled pork sandwiches are safe for now as enforcement of California’s new farm animal welfare law has been delayed by a ruling from Sacramento County Superior Court Judge James Arguelles. Proposition 12, passed by a ballot measure in 2018, requires enough space in holding pens for livestock to turn completely around, and sets other new standards yet to be worked out pertaining to California’s meat animals. The new regulations are expected to hit the pork industry especially hard. The delay is set to end six months after the state enacts the final regulations and is a relief to state grocers and restaurant operators as they deal with already rising food costs and supply chain issues. (CBS 13)
- The State of California is killing our buzz this week, reminding us that even the record rain and snow we got in November is still not enough to take us out of drought status. You could say they are raining on our parade with their recently approved new emergency water conservation measures, but that metaphor really doesn’t work. We should all be familiar with these water-saving measures by now, but maybe check out the city’s page to make sure you are up to date – especially as it could mean a $500 per day fine for non-compliance. We’ve got this, Roseville! (What’s Happening in Roseville)
