Here are the top three stories today in Roseville:
- A recent overdose death has prompted a homicide charge against a suspected local drug dealer. After an extensive investigation by Roseville detectives last week, Carson Schewe, age 20, had initially been booked on charges of possession of narcotics for sale and transportation of controlled substances. Yesterday, the Placer County District Attorney’s Office filed an added homicide charge against Schewe after it was discovered that someone overdosed and died from fentanyl-laced drugs he allegedly sold them. - Hockey Belongs 2 Everyone, a new group that has organized at Roseville's Skatetown, is hoping to share their love of hockey with everyone in the community — and they do mean everyone. "Our group is all about having a place to play, no matter who you are, what your age is, what your ethnicity is," said Coe Hawkins, one of the group's founders who plays at regular "50 and older" scrimmages. HB2E's founders say they are focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion for all people who want to play hockey, and they even want to raise money to help "curious athletes" who may feel priced out of the sport. For more details on the organization and how to get involved, email coehawkins@hb2e.org. (KCRA Sacramento)
- Identity theft is a growing problem, and the Roseville PD wants to help community members protect themselves. In a Roseville Today article, the police department shared a series of tips, including some warning signs of impostor scammers who may pose as a relative or authority figure to get money or personal information. If a suspected scammer comes to your door and violates Roseville Municipal Code 10.36.030 against solitation, you can contact Roseville Police Department or file an online crime report.
