  1. Roseville Electric Utility is hard at work updating plans for Roseville's energy future. Every five years it creates an integrated plan that takes into consideration demand, regulatory mandates, sources of supply and city priorities to determine the forward-looking plans. The utility invites residents to join an upcoming workshop to discuss the process and resource options. Dates and details can be found at this Roseville City Government site. (roseville.ca.us)
  2. It's mosquito season and with that comes the threat of the West Nile Virus. "With no cure available, West Nile virus is a serious and potentially fatal illness transmitted through the bite of a female mosquito." Placer County had one human case of the virus last year. The county is working on preventative measures, like killing the larvae and running a surveillance program to test adult mosquitoes for the virus. “If people are experiencing unusual mosquito activity, our technicians will come out and look for the breeding source and make suggestions or potentially do treatments,” Placer County public information officer Meagan Luevano said. (Placer Herald)
  3. Thousands of visitors flocked to the 16th annual Lincoln Rods & Relics Car Show on Saturday. All of the cars on display were American built before 1975. All proceeds from the event went to RRUFF, Acres of Hope and the Lincoln Rodeo. Event organizers Alan Taylor and George Funk said “this was another great event for the community, only made possible by the dozens of volunteers who devoted so many hours to make it a success.” (Lincoln News Messenger)
  4. It’s time to find out if you really can outrun the cops! The Roseville Police Department and Roseville Crime Stoppers are, again, putting on the Run Crime Out Of Roseville 5K this Independence Day. Also, once again this year, your kids can compete against Roseville officers – and Police Chief Bergstrom - in a 1/4 mile race! 5. During its recent meeting, the Roseville City Council received an update on the South Placer County Transportation Sales Tax Measure from the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency Executive Director Mike Luken. According to Luken, in the last 15 years there has been a reduction in the amount of federal funds that counties receive for their transportation needs. Because of this, there is about a $1 billion gap between the needs and the funds for transportation needs. "For south Placer, the state and federal government’s funding will help improve public transit, pedestrian safety, local congestion management and road and bridge maintenance. This leaves funding still needed to improve Placer Parkway, interchange improvements for I-80 and Highway 65, widening for Highway 65 and Horseshoe Bar or Nelson Lane improvements." The agency will continue outreach to help residents of Roseville understand the gaps. It's unclear when the measure may be on the ballot. (Roseville Press Tribune)
