Pinot + Paint = Picasso?
Painting with red and white may sound like it makes for a boring painting, but at Cabs and Canvas in Roseville, the red and white are to unlock the artist within.
Roseville has a new creative outlet in , a new art studio that opened Saturday which encourages patrons to come with their drink of choice and unleash their artistic inclinations for a new spin on what to do on a Friday night.
Keshia Glass, a former special education teacher and makeup artist was inspired by the open art studios of the South that hosted art classes while enjoying bottles of the latest Beaujolais.
“We don’t have anything like that on the west coast and I thought (the Sacramento area) could use a new flavor for going out.” Glass said.
So, who would enjoy Cabs and Canvas?

Date Night - For the cost of dinner and a movie for two, why not snag a bottle of Syrah and a small picnic dinner of hors de oeuvres and try something different for a change?
“Instead of doing the normal date stuff like heading out to the clubs or going to dinner, this is more interactive and a way to get out and do something different,” Glass said. “At a restaurant, all you come home with is a doggie bag, here you go home with a beautiful creation.”

Coming in the future are organized event nights like “Singles Night,” “Date Night,” or “Ladies Night.”
Birthday Parties - You could do the usual bounce house or pizza party. Or you could round up the kids and let them unleash their creative on a blank canvas. You pack the punch and cookies, and Cabs and Canvas will provide the art supplies, art instructor and, best of all, the cleanup when it’s all done.
“This is better than what I do at home because I don’t have paint, I just have crayons and pencils,” said 8-year-old Aijah Viray from Natomas who was busy painting a SpongeBob canvas at the Cabs and Canvas grand opening. “I think this would be a fun place to have a birthday party.”
Experienced Artists and Novices Alike - Already have sketchbooks and original pieces aplenty? Or are you like so many others who find it difficult to create a decent stick figure? Don’t fret it, Cabs and Canvas caters to artists of all abilities and skill sets.
Experienced artists can hone their skills and practice their technique with the guidance of a guest artist or take their canvas to a more private corner of the studio and let inspiration take over from there.
“Our instructors start with the most basic concepts from sketching out the design to helping with painting technique so at the end of the night, no matter what your experience level, you have a great piece of art to take home," Glass said.
