Sunday should be sunny with light winds. Expect a pleasant high of 71 degrees and an overnight low of around 42.

A cloudy sky during the day is expected to give way to light showers in the evening on Monday. The expected high is 69 degrees with an overnight low of 52. Winds should stay in the 10-15 mph range.

Here are the top three stories in Roseville today:

  1. A few key races in Placer County have ratcheted up interest in the mid-term elections coming up in June. Placer voters will elect a new sheriff, fill a new U.S. Congressional seat and, for the first time since 1995, select a new county supervisor. Several other “open seat” positions are also up for grabs, which is rare in our county according to former political consultant and CEO of Visit Placer Robert Haswell. (Subscription: The Sacramento Bee)
  2. Political seats aren’t the only things up for grabs in our area right now. The California State Parks system is accepting proposals for a five-year concessions contract at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The concessioner would run the snack bar, rent lake equipment such as paddleboards, sell sundry items like sunscreen and inflatables, and maintain the barbeques and picnic areas at the Granite Bay lakefront area. (Ledger Dispatch and YouTube)
  3. Speaking of Folsom Lake … a long-held tradition, forced to cancel during the pandemic, will return to Beals Point on Sunday. People from all over the region have been gathering on beach there for the Easter Sunrise Service for over 60 years. The morning includes quiet time for prayer and worship along with a spoken message as the sun rises over the Sierra. Sharon Williams and her family, who organize the service, advise attendees to arrive around 6:00 am (the service begins at 6:30 am) and bring their own seating. The entrance to Beals Point is at 7806 Auburn Folsom Rd. The States Parks Department waives the normal park entrance fee for this event. (Roseville Press Tribune)

  • It might not look like it with all this rain, but fire season is coming. You’ll need a burn permit to light up your trash and debris beginning Monday, April 18. Permits are free and can be obtained online. Be sure to follow all burn guidelines. (Placer.gov)
  • If you’ve got a little extra room in your house, consider adopting a Potter for the summer. A Lincoln Potter, that is! Nearly 40 baseball players, trainers and interns are about to converge on the City of Lincoln for the California Collegiate League season, and they are looking for host families to put them up. Kind of like foreign exchange students, only they are from all over the United States and are grown-ups. Host families get free season tickets to all Lincoln Potter games. (Lincoln News Messenger)
  • The same geniuses who brought us the Sac Brew Bike are taking this brilliant idea to the river with the new Sac Brew Boat. Tours run seven days a week beginning at 9:00 am and depart from the dock between Joe’s Crab Shack and Rio City Café in Old Sacramento. The craft can seat up to 16 passengers – enough room for all your friends! (Twitter)
