UPDATE: Police Find Missing Canine
German Shepherd from Santa Clara Police Department had fled from backyard amid loud fireworks.

UPDATE: The Roseville Police Department reported t 3:29 p.m. Thursday that the canine has been located and reunited with his handler. A private citizen found the dog the night of July Fourth and took him to the Placer SPCA Thursday afternoon. "He's now been positively identified and reunited with his handler," the Roseville Police stated in a brief news release.

A canine with the Santa Clara Police Department went missing Wednesday night in Roseville amid loud fireworks and law enforcement officials are seeking the public's help in his safe return.

The canine, a 5-year-old German Shepherd, is tan and black in color and weighs about 72 pounds, the Roseville Police Department stated in a news release. His name is Ivo (pronounced EE-VOO), he has an identifying tattoo on one of his ears and was wearing a chain collar when he ran away.
Ivo took off around 9 p.m. on July 4, from the backyard of a home in West Park, near Pleasant Grove Boulebard and Fiddyment Road, the release stated. "His handler let him out in the back yard for a minute, and a loud firework went off nearby," the release stated. "Before the handler could contain him, the dog jumped over the fence and ran."

The handler and Roseville Police officers searched the area, but haven't yet been able to locate the dog. More members of the Santa Clara Police Department are coming to Roseville today to continue the search, according to the RPD.
Police advise against trying to catch or handle the dog, or any other frightened or potentially aggressive do you don't know. Instead, keep an eye on him and phone the Roseville Police Department at (916)774-5000 ext. 1, or call your local law enforcement agency.
"Many dogs get startled by fireworks and run away around the 4th of July holiday period," the release stated. "Anytime you've lost or found a pet in the Roseville area, please report it to the Placer SPCA."
