Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- The Lincoln Fire Department hasn't grown in five years... until now. LFD is adding nine new firefighters to their ranks! The recruits should be done with training by the end of the year. Lincoln is growing by leaps and bounds, so they needed more manpower for firefighting, safety and prevention. Per ABC10: "The funding for the new crew members comes from the American Rescue Plan Act, which covers the costs for three years. After that point, the costs will come from the city's General Fund." (ABC10.com KXTV)
- The City of Roseville has your back this Halloween. It's published safety tips for motorists as well as the little ghouls and goblins out trick-or-treating. They've even got fire safety tips for your home. Check them out at this city link.
- "Placer County has seen a 450% increase in fentanyl deaths between 2019-2021." That's a scary statistic. One of the ways dealers get this poison into the hands of your kids is through rainbow colored pills and powder. The Placer County DA's office is warning parents that they are seeing a rise in the amount of rainbow fentanyl in the county. Kids are finding it on apps like Snapchat and TikTok, and it's killing them. Learn more about the county’s campaign against fentanyl at www.1pillcankillplacer.com and talk to your kids about the rainbow stuff. It's pretty, but it's deadly. (Roseville Today)
- A remote security service at a used car dealership in Roseville helped catch bad guys. The monitoring service called Roseville Police when they noticed a couple of people in the yard looking into vehicles at about 4 a.m. on Saturday. Officers responded and found two people with a car full of drugs and drug paraphernalia, as well as a loaded handgun. The two are now cooling their heels in the Placer County Jail. (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
- Placer County is changing the way people will access their public benefits from the county. Starting October 31, the public portal will change to a new website: BenefitsCal.com. According to the press release, "the BenefitsCal website will support applications for CalFresh, Medi-Cal/County Medical Services Program, CalWORKs, General Relief, Disaster CalFresh and the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants." If you have started an application in the old system, you need to have it finished by October 26, or start a new application in the new system after October 31. (placer.ca.gov)
