Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:
1. Twelve-year-old Elias Mirador of Roseville loves water and anything to do with water – especially car washes. He also has a severe form of epilepsy that makes going out difficult. The Make-A-Wish Foundation took on the Mirador family’s request for Elias and built a kids-sized version of a Quick Quack Car Wash in the family’s backyard. The play structure, complete with water, bubbles, lights and fans at the exit, was designed with help from the Quick Quack Car Wash company. (CBSlocal)
2. The rising cost of housing in our region is no secret to anyone who has looked to buy here recently. According to data of home sales prices taken from May 2020 to May 2021, the median price of a home in the Sacramento region reached a high of $500,000 in February of 2021. An interactive map on the Sacramento Bee’s website shows the percentage that prices have risen for each ZIP code in that time frame. In the map, Roseville’s three ZIP codes show an increase in home sales prices of 16.09% for 95678, 25.64% for 95747 and 28.71% for 95661. (SacBee)
3. Our Placer County Supervisors have approved a balanced $1,024,477,507 budget for the new fiscal year starting on July 1. The approval vote was unanimous. “Our county, like many others, weathered a pandemic, and now is recovering from a challenging 16 months. I’m proud of the forethought of our fiscal responsibility to ensure critical county service remain uninterrupted,” said Placer County Board of Supervisors Chair and District 2 Supervisor Robert Weygandt. About me
My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I have worked for the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
