We can expect to start our week with partly cloudy skies today and highs about 88 degrees. Lows should be about 56 tonight with humidity in the high 40% range.

Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:

  1. An El Dorado County-based company specializing in underwater survey has located an airplane in 160 feet of water in Folsom Lake. Seafloor Systems, Inc. was testing equipment in the drought-depleted lake when the wreckage was spotted. There is speculation the plane could be from a 1965 mid-air collision where one of the planes involved to crash into the water behind Folsom Dam. While the pilot’s body was found, the depth of the wreckage prevented the recovery of the three passengers on board. Three of the four victims were from Roseville. (GCM and KCRA)
  2. Temperatures in the triple digits forecasted for next week have the operators of our state electricity grid worried. Even with the approximately 3,500 megawatts of new capacity added since last August’s rolling blackouts, drought conditions are likely to diminish energy supplies usually generated by hydroelectric equipment. The California Independent System Operator (ISO) may implement “Flex Alerts,” calling for voluntary conservation during peak times, to stem the need for rolling blackouts this year. (SacBee)
  3. Congratulations to Granite Bay High School baseball’s Joe Plise who was voted Most Valuable Player in the All-Sierra Foothill League! Plise crushed this season with 39 hits, four home runs, 30 RBIs and 25 runs. He also showed his stuff on the mound with a 2.21 ERA and 30 strikeouts. The Grizzlies tied for the league championship with Rocklin. (GCM)
  4. Our Placer County Sheriffs have added a new tool to keep us safe in emergency situations. Hi-Lo sirens, like those used in Europe, were installed in patrol units last year to be used in case of emergency evacuations. This special siren will ONLY be used if an area is in imminent danger. If you hear the Hi-Lo siren, it’s time to evacuate! (PCSO)
  5. You can help support our senior population by taking a quick 5-minute survey created by the Placer County Healthy Brain Initiative (PCHBI). This program is funded by a grant and is part of the Placer County Public Health Division that seeks to support the older adult population. The survey results will be used for research purposes only by the PCHBI Advisory Committee to help better support residents and care partners in our community. (CoR)

About me

My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I worked the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
