- The City of Roseville has had it with folks dumping "everything but Styrofoam" in its Styrofoam recycling bins. The bins, formerly located at drop-off locations around the city since 2007 have been removed. But don't fret, you can dispose of your Styrofoam in your regular curbside bin. It will be taken to the Material Recovery Facility in Lincoln and sorted for recycling. (Roseville Today)
- Our friends in the City of Folsom have taken a page from Roseville's water conservation efforts, requiring citizens to cut water use by 20% as this year's drought worsens. As 60% of water use comes from landscape maintenance, many of the new restrictions target that area. (KCRA Sacramento)
- Wildfire season continues to ravage our neighboring towns and recreation areas this year. The Caldor Fire in El Dorado County tripled in size overnight Monday, precipitating the evacuation of Grizzly Flats, Somerset, Pollock Pines and Sly Park. The fire had burned 6,500 acres and was 0% contained as of yesterday. (KCRA and Cal Fire)
- The Assistance League of Greater Placer has coordinated with the Colfax School District, Dressing for Success, Operation School Bell and other community assistance programs to offer a ray of hope to nine families who lost everything in the River Fire. So far, the coalition has provided a back-to-school clothes shopping trip for 22 children and gift cards for other essentials to their families. This Emergency Outreach Program is still accepting donations from anyone who wants to help the fire victims. (Press Release)
- Ready or not, the flavors of Fall drop today at Dunkin' Donuts. While some may grumble that it is still margarita season, many foodies anticipate pumpkin spice like kids waiting for Santa. This year's offerings include pumpkin spice everything, apple cider donuts and glazed pumpkin donuts/muffins/munchkins. (Press Release)
