Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- As the state experiences the third year of drought, the city of Roseville is hosting a virtual public meeting to discuss the state of Roseville’s water supplies on Tuesday, August 2 at 6 p.m. Advanced registration is required. (Press Release Desk)
- Most Roseville City offices are closed on Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Refuse service follows its regular daily pick-up schedule. The city remains staffed to provide safety and emergency services. Administrative offices and public counters are closed. (Press Release Desk)
- Roseville PD’s Explorer Post 108 spent last weekend in Tracy at the annual Central Valley Explorer Competition. They participated in a total of 14 scenario events over the weekend, competing against 27 other Explorer Posts from around the state. RPD Explorers finished the weekend with a 1st Place finish in the High Risk Stop and a 3rd Place finish in the Critical Incident scenarios. Do you know a teen or young adult interested in a career in law enforcement? The Roseville Police Explorer program may be a great opportunity for them. Explorers must be between 14-20 years of age, have at least a 2.5 GPA, and pass a background check. For more information about the Explorer Program, click HERE (Roseville)
- Where does your trash go after it leaves your home? Believe it or not, my friends and I were just having a conversation about this yesterday in relation to the new organics recycling requirements. Who is going to empty all of those plastic bags? Well, here's our answer. Each year, Roseville picks up about 130,000 tons of waste and takes it to the Materials Recovery Facility – known as the MRF (pronounced MURF). The MRF receives, separates, and prepares materials to sell for recycling using a combination of equipment and labor. The MRF recovers what can be reused or recycled, which helps with landfill capacity by taking out valuable items and repurposing them. So there you go. (Roseville)
- The Roseville Fire has deployed resources to the #RicesFire in Nevada County. The Strike Team Leader and Brush Rig are part of Task Force 4125 which includes agencies from the greater Sacramento area. As of 8 p.m. Wednesday night, CAL FIRE NEU was reporting the fire to be at 510 acres and 0% contained. (Facebook)

Are you a Roseville resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
