  1. Affordable housing is important to the health of the community and the local economy. Earlier this year, the Roseville City Council approved the use of Objective Design Standards (ODS) to streamline the construction of qualifying affordable housing projects. Projects that comply with the ODS will qualify for the streamlined permit process that bypasses the standard design review, and public notification and hearing processes, allowing the project to be built more quickly with fewer permitting fees. That means a more efficient and cost effective development process which helps developers remain profitable with lower cost alternatives, leading to more housing and easing the region's housing shortage. 2. At 10 a.m., Monday September 13, Bayside Church Adventure Campus in Roseville will host the funeral services for Galt Police Department Officer Harminder Grewal. The pubic is invited to participate in the procession. Traffic will be impacted on Galleria Blvd and Stanford Ranch Road. (Facebook)
  3. Cal Fire confirmed Friday the River Fire that affected Placer and Nevada counties was human caused. Cal Fire and the Placer County Fire Department confirmed that the fire started in the overnight camping area of the Bear River Campground and was conclusively caused by humans. The fire burned 2,619 acres, and destroyed 142 structures before it was fully contained on August 13th. (Gold Country Media)
  4. The Roebbelen Event Center (previously Placer Valley Event Center) recently celebrated its one year anniversary. The center includes over 150,000 square feet of indoor space, with 12 basketball courts, 24 volleyball courts and a 10,000 square foot lobby with flexible gathering space. Looks like lots of great events are scheduled for the rest of the year! I don't know about you, but I am supremely curious as to exactly what a "brick palooza" is. And, I'm totally there for the junk hunt! (Roseville Today)
  5. Two former Sierra College volleyball players are making waves at Texas A&M University at Kingsville (TAMUK). Kapri Pelle and Meghan Merlino made the leap last year to become Javalinas. TAMUK, an NCAA Division II school, plays in the Lone Star Conference. In the spring, the Javelinas won the South Division for the first time ever with a 13-1 record and Merlino played a big role with 85 kills and the most points and kills per set on the team. Both women have promising futures, on the court and off. Pelle is considering playing volleyball overseas after college while Merlino is majoring in criminal justice and is considering becoming an attorney. (Gold Country Media)
