  1. On Thursday afternoon, Roseville Police received a call reporting a robbery of an older couple at their home. The couple had been shopping at a store on Galleria Blvd. and had just returned home as another vehicle pulled into the driveway behind them. Two men got out of the car and robbed the couple. The vehicle was described as a white Nissan Pathfinder. The couple was not seriously injured. It is possible the suspects targeted the couple while they were shopping and followed them home. If you have information related to ongoing investigation, please contact the Roseville Police Department Investigations Unit at (916) 746-1059. (City of Roseville Police Department)
  2. Responding to sharply increasing rates of Delta variant strain COVID infection, 11 California counties, including Sacramento, have issued strong recommendations for people to wear facemasks in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Los Angeles County is expected to escalate its recommendation to a mandate beginning this weekend. (Sacramento Bee)
  3. Much of Northern California, including Roseville and most of the rest of Placer County, will be under a Fire Weather Watch from 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 18 through 5:00 pm on Monday, July 19. Persisting drought conditions and forecasted thunderstorms have the potential to spark new fires, as happened in August of 2020. Be sure to check for updates this weekend and make sure you have an emergency plan in place for your household. (National Weather Service)
  4. You can help keep history alive by becoming a volunteer for one of our local history museums. The Placer County Museums Division is recruiting volunteers, docents and team members for the Bernhard Museum Complex, DeWitt History Museum, Gold Rush Museum, Placer County Museum in Auburn, Griffith Quarry Museum in Penryn, and the brand-new Fruitvale School Museum in Lincoln. “Being a museums volunteer is a wonderful and fulfilling experience for anyone who loves history and meeting new people,” said Placer County Museums Administrator Ralph Gibson. 5. Sacramento Rivercats fielder Drew Robinson, 29, will retire from playing professional baseball after three more games this weekend. Robinson inspired many with his comeback story after losing one eye in a suicide attempt in April of 2020. The former Major League Baseball player signed by the San Francisco Giants to play AAA ball for the Rivercats this season. He had a successful spring training and, despite some struggles on the field, hit three homeruns since coming back to the field. Robinson will continue working with the Giants organization as a mental health advocate. "I couldn't be more excited to remain in the game that saved my life," he wrote on Instagram. (ESPN.com)
