Gas Up For Less + Placer SPCA Honored + Bugs Infest Urban Areas

Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing in town today.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Kelly Risse, your host of the Roseville Daily.

First, today's weather:

The weather gave us a pleasant surprise yesterday with a much cooler day than was originally forecasted. Hopefully you enjoyed that brief respite because we are getting back up to an expected high today of 97. Overnight temperatures should be about 70. Winds out of the Northwest will be in the 5-10 mph range and humidity should be 32% during the day.

Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. Have high gasoline prices put a crimp in your summer vacation travel plans? Prices have declined slightly over the past week, but still - ouch! Lucky for us, our friends at Roseville Today did the legwork and compiled a list of the Roseville gas stations with the lowest prices. (Roseville Today)
  2. Col. Joseph Mohamed Sr. USA (Ret) and Shirley M. Mohamed were honored in a small ceremony last week as the four-story building at 116 S. Grant St. was dedicated to them. The Mohameds owned the building before selling it to the City of Roseville in 2019, thinking it should be an extension of the new City Hall complex. The structure now houses Roseville Electric Utility and the Downtown Post Office. (Press Release Desk)
  3. For the 15th year in a row, Placer SPCA (PSPCA) has been awarded a four-star rating by Charity Navigator, one of the nation's largest independent charity evaluators. This rating recognizes excellence in fiscal responsibility, accountability and transparency. On top of that, PSPCA also made the top one percent of all four-star charities in the country. 4. High temperatures have caused all manner of creepy-crawlies to venture out from their hidey-holes and into human homes in Placer and Sacramento Counties, according to area pest control agencies. Like most of us, the bugs are looking for water and a cool place to hang out. There is an especially large uptick in infestations of Turkestan Cockroaches. These critters are easily able to access homes in urban areas as they tend to come up through the public sewer systems. (Sacramento Bee)
  5. Revitalization is on the horizon for Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights. After more than a year of planning, the City of Citrus Heights released a draft for the Specific Plan that includes hotel space, residential units, retail space, office space and community use/institutional uses. The plan envisions a "mixed-use Main Street" with a central open space for events and a neighborhood park. (citrusheightssentinel.com)
