  1. The City of Roseville has earned the Prohousing Designation from the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). That means that affordable housing projects in Roseville will be easier for developers to fund and build. “These communities have stepped up to implement policies that aggressively eliminate bureaucratic obstacles and drive the growth of housing throughout the state,” said Governor Newsom. The City of Roseville Development Services Director Mike Isom estimates this will mean as many as 1,200 new affordable units in the next 18-24 months. (Roseville Today)
  2. Oakmont High School temporarily went into a sheltering-in-place mode on Thursday morning, with reports of a student who may have brought a weapon to campus. The student was detained upon entering the school. "Out of an abundance of caution, the school voluntarily went into shelter-in-place while the incident was investigated." Students were no longer sheltering by 11:15 and there were no reports of any injuries. (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
  3. Citrus Heights Optimist International club organized a toy drive at the Grand Oaks Bingo Center on Monday night. The event yielded 6 shopping carts full of toys for local families. In a novel approach, the club has been soliciting toys and donations for over a month by allowing members to "buy in" to games with those donations. (Citrus Heights Sentinel)
  4. Oh, boy, do I love sushi! Mikuni is my favorite, but I'm always up to try a new entrant in the sushi restaurant game. Maneki Sushi by Bay Boys Brewing is having a Grand Opening today at 1902 Taylor Road in Roseville! From the looks of the Instagram, these guys are going to give Mikuni a run for its money. (ABC10.com KXTV)
  5. According to Lincoln Public Safety Chief Matt Alves, the city has seen fewer porch pirates and home and auto break-ins this year. In fact, the trend has been going in this direction for several years. Alves says he thinks it's because residents are more cautious these days. “Lincoln is not a city where citizens have to be consumed with worry of having their vehicles or homes broken into. However, it does happen on occasion and we need to always be vigilant," he said. (Gold Country Media)
