  1. Thanks to Roseville, California is in a better place to weather the current weather. Emergency power generators were installed by the Department of Water Resources (DWR) in Roseville and Yuba City last year. This week, Cal ISO (Independent System Operator) requested they be deployed for the first time. The four generators can provide up to 120 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 120,000 homes, to the statewide power grid during extreme heat events like we are experiencing. “DWR has been planning for this moment for months and we’re proud of our role in safeguarding the statewide energy grid. We are doing everything possible to help keep the lights on and the air conditioning running so millions of Californians can stay safe and healthy during this extreme heat event,” said Karla Nemeth, DWR director. 2. This little injured coyote puppy is scared, but adorable! He was rescued on the side of Roseville Parkway with an injured leg. According to FOX40, "the coyote was taken to a local wildlife rescue with the help of animal control and the Atlantic Street Vet Hospital." Get better, little dude! (KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
  3. Areas of Placer County were being evacuated Tuesday morning due to the Hill Fire burning near Foresthill off Iowa Hill Road. According to Cal Fire, the fire was mapped at 11.46 acres and no spot fires were noted as of 11:41 a.m. Tuesday. Evacuation orders were in place for several area campgrounds and roads were closed including Iowa Hill Road and Big Dipper Road, Sugar Pine Road at Foresthill Road and Finning Mill Road at Brimstone and Hollow Log. 4. In the early morning hours of August 31, Roseville PD officers were alerted to suspicious activity in the 8300 block of Industrial Avenue. Officers discovered two men had cut through a chain link fence, into a secure parking area, and removed multiple catalytic converters from vehicles. Two suspects were apprehended. They were 39 year-old Juan Anguiano and 40 year-old Johnathan Echols. Per the Roseville Police, “the Roseville police department recognizes the surge in catalytic convertor thefts and the financial hardship it creates for victims. Combating these type of thefts continues to be a top priority for our agency. If you see suspicious activity, report it to you local law enforcement agency." (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
  5. A new wheelchair swing is being installed at Recreation Park in Auburn. The design allows those in wheelchairs to ride the swing without transferring from their chairs. When it is completed, it will accommodate two wheelchairs as well as non-wheelchair riders at the same time. Construction began on the structure on August 29 and was expected to take about 7 - 10 days. When it is complete, officials hope to have a ribbon cutting ceremony. (Gold Country Media)
