Here are the top three stories today in Roseville:

  1. The Hampton Inn & Suites Roseville will soon be converted into permanent supportive housing for homeless members of the community under the Homekey 2.0 program. The California Department of Housing and Community Development has awarded Placer County over $23.5 million in highly competitive funding to convert the hotel into 82 residential units. The property will be managed by AMI Housing, a local nonprofit that also provides supportive services. (Roseville Today)
  2. The Roseville Police Department is looking to "prevent crimes before they occur" with a new traffic camera software. The department said it began using a software program called Flock Safety in 2021, which compares traffic cam photos of license plates snapped from the rear against plate numbers of stolen or wanted cars. Police are then alerted if there is a match. CBS reported that Roseville currently has 10 Flock Safety devices at traffic lights, but the police department has been approved to add 10 more devices beginning next month. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. Roseville police announced that a convicted sex offender has been arrested again on multiple charges. Earlier this week, Roseville Police detectives coordinated with the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Task Force and Placer County Sheriff’s Office Detectives to serve a search warrant on a house in the 1400 block of Vista Creek Way. Authorities were acting on a tip that led to an investigation into internet crimes against children. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Carlos Gallardo of Roseville, a known offender who was out of compliance with his sex offender registration requirements. Gallardo was booked into the South Placer Jail on multiple charges, including failing to register as a sex offender, possession of child pornography, possession of controlled substances, and child endangerment.
