- They had plans to pack more than 400,000 meals at the annual Feed My Starving Children MobilePack event in Rocklin over the weekend. According to Roseville Today "in its first seven years in Placer County, the annual MobilePack packed a total of more than 3.4 million meals for malnourished children." That's a huge accomplishment! Thank you to all of the volunteers (around 1,500 of them) who turned out for this event! (Roseville Today)
- Placer County has a new veterans service officer. His name is Matthew Galvin and he is a longtime Naval officer. In this role, he will oversee "an office that supports veterans’ access to compensation and pensions, survivor benefits, education, vocational rehabilitation, home loans, life insurance and burial benefits, among other services." - Have you taken Placer County Transportation Planning Agency's survey yet? You are invited to help them understand unmet needs of the public transportation system in Placer County. Take the online survey! There will also be a public hearing on the topic on October 26. (rocklin.ca.us)
- They broke ground and began construction on the site that will house the Sacramento State Placer Center and Sierra College Transfer Center on Friday. The campus is expected to open within the next five years. “Finally, a beginning,” Sacramento State University President Robert Nelsen said during the ribbon cutting. This is a unique project that brings together a junior college and four-year college, including dual-admission to support transfer students. (Gold Country Media)
- It was a nail-biter on Friday as Roseville High bested Inderkum with a field goal in the last 3 seconds of the game! Both teams were coming off a bye week and both wanted the victory because they were "chasing Antelope at the top of the Capital Valley Conference." Our boys came through in the crunch. - Registration for both the 9:30 and 10:30am Storytime sessions at each Roseville Public Library location will be required beginning this November. Registration for all weekly Storytime sessions opens each Monday at 8a.m." (Roseville Public Library via Facebook)
- “Before it was Granite Bay, it was called Allen's District. Named after Hiram B. Allen, whose family was one of the families that lived in the area along with the Cavitt's and the Stallman's in the 1800's.
