Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- Roseville High freshman Jasmine Hale made a hole-in-one at a tournament at Indian Creek Country Club on August 31. According to Gold Country Media, the ball dropped about three feet from the hole and rolled in for the glory. “I wasn’t sure where it went,” Hale said. “ I thought it could have gone in but that would be crazy. I was the last to go in my group so we started to walk toward the green and I said, ‘I may have just got a hole in one.’ I couldn’t believe it. Everyone was very excited. I ran back and told my coach and he was excited, along with everyone in the pro shop. I texted my parents and everyone was freaking out.” Way to go Jasmine! (Gold Country Media)
- The first National Barbera Day gets underway in Amador Wine Country on Saturday. I'm, frankly, surprised that it's not a longer tradition! Amador is widely known for its Barbera and it's delicious! - According to Roseville Police, a licorice theft on September 6 ended with a twist. ... An Ace Hardware employee noticed some suspicious activity in the parking lot, with a couple of guys looking under cars. One of them entered the store and tried to steal a chainsaw. Failing that, he grabbed some licorice candy on the way out of the store. That turned out to be a fatal mistake. The shop owner pressed charges on the candy caper and Roseville Police were then on the lookout. They found the candy thieves and, in so doing, also found a stolen catalytic converter and illegal drugs. The suspects, Jerome Adcock, age 39 of Sacramento and 44-year-old Jessie Casey of Marysville were arrested on suspicion of felony theft and other related charges. - Roseville PD is currently responding to help PCSO with evacuations for the Mosquito fire. (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook) The Mosquito Fire is burning in Placer County near Foresthill. On Thursday afternoon the fire was reported to be 8,265 acres, with 0% containment. Foresthill, a town of roughly 1,500 people, was ordered by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office to evacuate midday Wednesday, along with immediately surrounding communities in Placer County. Midday on Thursday, the fire jumped the Middle Fork of the American River into El Dorado County and evacuations are underway in that county, as well. The smoke from the fire caused air issues as far away as Sacramento. (Sacramento Bee via MSN & KCRA3) At 11 a.m. Thursday morning, Roseville was at a "moderate" air quality level due, in part, to smoke from the Mosquito Fire. You can check current air quality at this government link (airnow.gov)
- Lincoln resident Ryan Dale Lapp has been accused by the Placer DA of starting multiple fires in Rocklin, Auburn and Lincoln. The DA is accusing Lapp of “maliciously set[ting] fire to forest land located off of Baxter Grade Road in Auburn, McCourtney Road in Lincoln and Greenbrae Road in Rocklin.” Cal Fire enforcement officers arrested Lapp on Saturday and he appeared in court on Wednesday where he was assigned a public defender. The defendant is currently being held at the Placer County Jail without bail. (Gold Country Media)
