Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- Jane Anker Hylton's body was found at 2848 Stanford Lane in El Dorado Hills on July 7, 1985. A man named Ricky Davis went to prison for her murder. Fifteen years later, it was determined that he was not the killer. Thirty-seven years after the murder, DNA evidence led authorities to the now 54-year-old man who actually perpetrated the crime. Michael Green was arrested in Roseville in 2020 for the murder. At the time of the murder Green was 17 years old, according to Savannah Broddrick with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s office. Green plead no contest to second degree murder on Friday. He will be sentenced, according to his plea deal, to 15 years to life in prison on September 30. (Village Life)
- Rocklin Judo has a very talented student. Elias Sabin, 17, has been with the school for the last 7 years, and over that time he has become the number one ranked athlete in the nation at the International Judo Federation (IJF) 100-kilogram division. His coach credits his tenacity. Sabin says its hard work, the willingness to learn all aspects of the sport and "it’s also good for my personal mental health because if you’re having a bad day, getting to throw other people around isn’t too bad.” He'll be competing at the IJF World Championships that will be held in Guayaquil, Ecuador from Aug. 10 to Aug. 14. - On Saturday, July 23, Folsom Prison inmates Daryl Cull and Nicholas Mangelli were observed attacking fellow inmate Wayne Caskey with manufactured weapons. Caskey was taken to the prison's triage area, where he was pronounced dead less than half an hour later. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. (Folsom Telegraph)
- Per the city of Roseville Police Department: "a vehicle was rented from an individual, out of Citrus Heights, through an online platform. When the car was not returned at the end of the contract, the owner reported the vehicle stolen with suspect information. On July 27, RPD officers located the stolen vehicle parked at the mall." Officers found and arrested the guilty parties. Both were booked into the South Place jail. (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
