Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- It was a blowout party of a different sort at a party supply warehouse in Roseville on Wednesday night. Crews arrived to find the building engulfed in flames and explosions happening from canisters of paint, helium and propane. That, along with the sheer size of the building created a dangerous fire for the crews. Thankfully, no injuries to the crews or others were reported. The fire is under investigation. (KCRA Sacramento)
- I love this idea! It's called June Care and it is parents helping other parents in the neighborhood with childcare in line with the "it takes a village" concept. It is just getting started in Roseville. June Care vets the parents who have bandwidth to take care of other children while staying at home with theirs. They then match those parents with families that need child care. It can be anything from a few hours to full time. The stay-at-home parents get a little extra income. The working parents get reliable daycare and the kids get to make new friends. Nice. (Roseville Today)
- You're more apt to be stopped for a moving violation in Lincoln, as the city re-establishes its traffic unit after a decade without one. The unit will focus on "traffic enforcement throughout the city, investigation of major collisions, and public education,” Lt. Keith Johnson said on July 14. Sixteen-year Lincoln Police Department veteran Officer Brett Schneider was selected as the first full-time traffic officer. The department will pull officers from patrol to the traffic unit as they ramp up staffing for the traffic unit. (Gold Country Media)
- Lauren Mason, a Woodcreek High School 2016 alumna, has become a bit of a phenom in women's wrestling. On June 8 she defeated Alisha Hawk 5-4 in her 55-kilogram freestyle match to secure a spot on the 2022-23 USA Wrestling National Team. “I recognized it was something I could do this year and it’s super exciting to meet this goal,” Mason said.
