Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- To continue the week’s events honoring fallen police officers, two Roseville Police Department Honor Guard members stood guard at the California Peace Officers’ Memorial. A new addition to the memorial this year was the unveiling of a new statue honoring women peace officers. (Facebook)
- The name of the driver has still not been released in the fatal collision that took Inderkum High School senior Anthony Williams's life on March 19 in Rocklin. The name cannot be released until the collision report is completed, which does not have an estimated time of completion. “Any time there is a tragic loss of life as a result of a vehicle collision, we take the time to conduct a complete investigation,” Lt. Scott Horrillo of the Rocklin PD said Thursday. No charges have been filed. (Gold Country Media)
- In preparation for the June 7 statewide direct primary election, the Placer County Elections Office began distributing voter information guides to voters in Placer County May 6. The ballot includes several state and federal seat primaries as well as Placer County races including assessor, clerk-recorder-registrar of voters, district attorney, sheriff/coroner-marshal, supervisorial districts 1 and 2 and Twin River Unified School District. For eastern Placer County voters, it also includes Measure A, a proposal to reauthorize an additional 2% tax on lodging guests in North Lake Tahoe. Placer County residents who do not receive their voter information guides by May 9 or misplace their guide can view it on http://www.placercountyelections.gov. (placer.ca.gov)
- From a memorial honoring World War II Japanese-American soldiers to the recently-dedicated Walk of Honor memorial in Granite Bay, Placer County has much to offer for those who want to pay their respects to the members of our United States Armed Forces. - The Auburn Area Republican Women, Federated will host a luncheon Friday, May 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The venue is to be decided. Guest speakers will be Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressional District 3 candidate, and Brandon Bean, who’s running for Placer County Sheriff. Attendees also will meet three candidates for State Assembly: Joe Patterson, Greg Smith and Jason Paletta. Reservations are required no later than Monday, May 16, and the cost of lunch is $20. The public is invited regardless of party affiliation. (Auburn Journal)
