Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Accolades for our humble town continue to pile up as Roseville was recently rated number eight on Livability.com's "Top 100 Best Places To Live In America" list. Factors like civics, demographics, economy, education, health, housing, infrastructure and amenities were taken into consideration in the ranking. Check out the City of Roseville webpage for a list of other honors bestowed upon our fair city. (CBS Sacramento and City of Roseville)
- With the threat of wildfire becoming a not-too-distant memory as Northern California gets its first rainfall in months, fire fighters mop up the remains and the U.S. Forest Service moves in to mitigate the fallout. “Getting rid of those hazard trees, processing them, chipping, mulching and then spreading that out to help prevent some of that erosion that we know will come with future precipitation,” said Sarah Wheeler, the U.S. Forest Service's Caldor Fire information officer. Preemptive work now to deal with erosion translates to less chance of landslides and waterway contamination later. (FOX 40)
- U.C. Davis Health continues to expand its services in the Sacramento region with a new multi-use location planned for Folsom. A 34.5-acre parcel is slated for development into "an outpatient medical office building and, in the future, a micro-hospital, an ambulatory surgery center and a hotel." In addition to the traditional healthcare facilities, the project includes a unique-to-the-region "community for health and independence" that will focus on technology-enhanced housing aimed at helping seniors and disabled persons to live independently. (Rocklin and Roseville Today)
- Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg is betting on a new source of funding for programs to help the homeless. He's thrown in his lot with 3 other California mayors on a bill that would allow online sports games betting, projecting the measure could generate $500 million or more yearly. These proceeds would provide a creative stream of revenue to fund permanent shelter and housing for the homeless and expand mental health and addiction services. (CBS Sacramento)
