Here are the top four stories today in Roseville:

  1. This Folsom woman's bag had a better vacation than she did. Terri Stackhouse booked herself and her family on a post-pandemic "dream trip" to Ireland on British Airways. She and her family got to Dublin, but their bags did not. Eventually, her family was reunited with their luggage, but Stackhouse's bags were nowhere to be found. She had purchased "smart tags" before her trip, so she could track where her bags were - and she did that, from Heathrow to Dubai and even to New Delhi, but they just weren't getting to her. I don't know if it was better to know where they were, or not. At least she could live vicariously through their travel. The airline says they have finally located her bags and they are on their way via FedEx to her. I wonder if they picked up any souvenirs for her on their journey. (KCRA Sacramento)
  2. A Roseville man was observed by police going nearly 95 miles an hour on Foothill Boulevard on July 27. Police abandoned the chase after determining it was a public safety risk, but after extensive investigation they confirmed that Timothy Baxter was the man they were pursuing. On August 25 Baxter was arrested and his motorcycle was impounded. Baxter is currently in the South Placer County Jail and is facing charges for evading with willful disregard for public safety. 3. Big plans are in the making for a Roseville sports complex. Jill Geller, director of Parks, Recreation and Libraries for the city of Roseville wants you to know about them. She took some time out to answer a few questions for ABC10. "The complex will consist of 10 lighted, artificial turf fields as well as all the supporting amenities, which include restrooms, shade structures, concessions, and parking. We'll even have a large all-inclusive playground on the property that kids can play in whether they're visiting the soccer complex or not," Geller said. She also said the project is estimated to cost between $40 million and $50 million dollars. She also answered questions about parking and traffic impact. You can read all her answers here. 4. Rocklin teenager Zachary Didier was late to wake up one December morning. His father went to investigate. It was soon clear that Didier was not going to wake up. He had overdosed on fentanyl that he had purchased in a deal that took place at a Rocklin apartment complex the day before. Didier had also done a deal with the same person a few days prior at the Galleria Mall, having gotten a Snapchat that said "Mobile. Sacramento area, Rocklin, Roseville, Lincoln ..." interspersed with cell phone emojis. Apparently, that is known as a way for dealers to let their customers know they're open for business. If all of this hits close to home for you, it should. These encounters are happening in our backyard with the kid next door and maybe your kid. The Update has an excellent story of how all of this unfolded with this 17-year-old boy who didn't make it to tell his own story. It's engaging and frightening. Read it with your kids.
