Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- It's gonna be a scorcher this weekend, Roseville! Temps are supposed to top 100 degrees for the full week, Thursday, September 1 through Wednesday, September 7, with a peak on Labor Day of 111 degrees! Feels like Palm Desert, not Placer County! Personally, I'm headed for the coast. I'll be in Muir Beach, where the temperature is supposed to be a frigid 78. Come join me! (Roseville Today)
- If your air conditioning goes out and you can't make it to Muir Beach, Folsom has an option for you. It's going to open a cooling center at the Folsom Public Library meeting room at 411 Stafford Street. It'll be open Friday through Monday. According to Roseville Today, "masks are required at all times and will be provided. Pets are allowed in the library meeting room only on cooling center days and must be in a carrier or on a leash." (Roseville Today)
- Last week the Roseville Police Department Social Services Unit, Roseville Parks and Recreation Department and Roseville Code Enforcement Department headed out to Rocky Ridge Drive / Strauch Drive and various locations along the Miners Ravine Trail for its weekly debris clean up effort. Check out the pile of stuff cleared out! Per their Facebook page "If you ever see trash or other public nuisance-related concerns such as graffiti, abandoned vehicles, or debris, which affect the cleanliness of our city, please go to the Roseville City website and direct your concerns to the Code Enforcement Department: http://roseville.ca.us/.../development.../code_enforcemPent" (Facebook.com)
- The Roseville Joint Union High School District is offering a CTE Pathway Internship Program for qualified seniors enrolled in medical, business, commercial music, culinary, graphic arts and digital media, engineering, advanced manufacturing and residential construction career technical pathways. Employers can utilize unpaid interns for 6-8 hours a week. Paid interns are allowed to work the legal maximum amount of hours prescribed by law. Program staff will instruct students on work-readiness skills once a week. Hours are set by the employer. Per Councilmember Scott Alvord, "this is a great win-win program that not only helps skilled students gain important experience, but helps numerous business sectors obtain helpful labor on a trial basis. I've used interns in the past and they did great and were worth the effort. My regular staff enjoyed working with them and helping them improve their skills." (Facebook.com)
- Law enforcement is, once again, sounding the alarm about rainbow fentanyl. They say this substance may be targeted to minors. Per KRON "the Placer County DA’s office states that sales are happening over Tik Tok, Instagram and Snapchat and that fentanyl 'can come in the form of fake prescription pills, off-market vape pens and are even being reported to be found in marijuana.'” “Fentanyl has changed the landscape – what was once considered harmless experimentation can lead to death,” Placer County District Attorney Morgan stated at a press conference. “Kids trying pills they believe are something else are dying the first time and it is absolutely devastating.” Talk to your kids. One pill can kill. (KRON4)
