Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- While Roseville boasts a long list of reasons it is a desirable place to live, unfortunately, we can't breathe easy that we are on top of all of them. Air quality in the Roseville-Sacramento region continues to be a challenge according to the American Lung Association. Sacramento is a valley, so "stuff" tends to settle here. We also are seeing a rise in building and, of course, extended fire seasons. All of that is conspiring to increase air pollution and decrease air quality. This article from Roseville Today shows you where we fall on the (bottom of) the lists The American Lung Association tracks for air quality. (Roseville Today)
- Thanks to the wonderful community of Roseville, our creeks and rivers are clean, maintained and ready for us to enjoy and utilize as a natural resource. In October 2021, Environmental Utilities’ stormwater program began hosting multiple Adopt-a-Creek clean-up events throughout the city. As a result of this effort, over 6,300 pounds of trash were removed from the rivers by approximately 178 volunteers over 5 different events at 3 locations. Nice job, Roseville! We thank our volunteers for helping us keep our natural resources natural! (Roseville Today)
- Softball at Jessup is HOT! And I'm not talking about sweaty players. For the first time in the program's history, the WJU softball team became NAIA Golden State Athletic Conference champions! But they're not done yet! They were named the number two seed in their bracket. They play number three seeded Rio Grande on their journey toward a potential NAIA championship. Nice Going Jessup! (ABC10)
- We'll call this one "the kitten that outfoxed a Rocklin resident." A Rocklin woman rescued what she thought was a kitten. After a family member realized it was not a kitten, they called animal control. What the woman had found was a fox kit! The animal has since been taken to the Gold Country Wildlife Rescue to be treated. (CBS Sacramento)
- Beginning May 28, the Roseville Aquatics Complex opens for the season by RESERVATION ONLY. Construction delays on the recreation and play pools mean that swimming is restricted to the competition pool which has limited space, and even more limited shallow water, resulting in the need for reservations. While the entire complex won’t be open on Memorial Day weekend, they hope to open more pool amenities soon (as construction permits). Reservations will be available each week on Mondays for the upcoming weekend. (roseville.ca.us)
