Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. Two Roseville residents placed first in their age divisions at the First Tee Sierra View Junior Tournament at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville on Monday. Carter Jones finished first in the 16- to 18- year-old age division with a three-under-par round of 69. Oakmont High’s Jonathan Miller finished first in the 14- to 15-year-old division with a two-over-par round of 74. Nice going, guys! (Gold Country Media)
  2. Roseville parks and recreation officials say this summer has been a particularly ugly one in terms of vandalism at Roseville parks. So far this year there have been over 50 incidents of vandalism costing the city in excess of $20,000. "We need your help," the parks and recreation department said in a statement. "If you see vandalism in progress or equipment/facilities being intentionally damaged, you're witnessing a crime in progress, immediately report it." (CBS Sacramento)
  3. Tuesday is National Night Out. Are you participating? According to the Roseville Press Tribune "in Roseville, about 30 neighborhoods ... host celebrations and barbecues while meeting with Roseville Police and first responders. According to Roseville Police Department public information officer Rob Baquera, neighborhoods are free to be creative and customize their events to fit their neighborhood environment." Officers are expected to arrive in Roseville neighborhoods between 6 and 9 p.m. “I love visiting neighborhood events on National Night Out because it’s awesome to see our community come together with a common goal of reducing crime and strengthening relationships,” Baquera said. (Roseville Press Tribune)
  4. California Capital Aquatics in Roseville hosted the 2022 Summer CA-NV Sectionals at the Roseville Aquatics Center, finishing up on Sunday. A rising senior at Del Oro High School in Loomis had a strong meet. Sean Christianson won both the 100-meter backstroke and butterfly races. Racing for Wolverine Aquatics Club, Christianson hit a U.S. Open cut on July 22 in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 57.31 seconds. “I didn’t figure it out until an hour later when I was out at lunch and I was super excited and happy with the race,” Christianson said. (Roseville Press Tribune)
  5. Jeff Lindgren, 60, of Rocklin, was diagnosed with glioblastoma in April of 2021. Unfortunately, there is no cure. “The median survival rate is 15 months, and I'm out 15 months right now. To put that into perspective, half of the people already diagnosed at this point will have passed away," Lindgren said. Despite those odds, Lindgren has a long term goal, to summit the Matterhorn to support research funded by the Glioblastoma Foundation. "There are people and organizations that are actively closing in on more effective treatments for this,” Lindgren said. “And I want to support them by raising some money to support their research." He's set to try the climb on August 12. Good luck to him! He's already beat some crazy odds, just to try. (KCRA3)
