Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- If you want something a little... different... this holiday season, try Roseville Theater of Arts Academy's "A Furrytale Christmas." As I understand it, it's a story about Santa as told by the Wookies. It has everything from a snowy day that refuses to make snow, to an elf named, aptly, Ronco. This one has "new tradition" written all over it. (Roseville Today)
- If you were hoping to sneak in your registration for Roseville's Turkey Trot at the last minute, I'm afraid I have bad news for you: The event is sold out. You can still go down to Vernon Square and cheer on your favorite trotter, though! And non-perishable food donations will also be accepted on race day. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- A young child was killed and his mother was hospitalized after a crash in I-80 in Roseville, according to California Highway Patrol. A pickup truck was accelerating to freeway speeds coming off an onramp when it collided with the car that the mother and son were in. The car was disabled alongside the roadway with a flat tire. The mother was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The child died at the scene. A good samaritan who worked nearby had this message for the family: "I was there and I did hold him," the man said. "I hope for her it's consolation in knowing that he wasn’t alone." (KCRA Sacramento)
- Kaiser Permanente responded to the planned nurses' strike in Roseville and Northern California. In a note to Roseville Today, Kaiser said, in part, "We are committed to continuing to provide excellent compensation and a work environment committed to well-being, safety, and professional opportunities for our nurses." You can read the unedited response in this article from Roseville Today.
- The only known surviving railroad emergency hospital sits on Church Street in Roseville. "One of Roseville's original board of trustees members, and former mayor, Dr. Bradford Woodbridge treated patients here before they were transferred to larger hospitals in Sacramento and San Francisco." It can be yours! In fact, you can have it for free, but, of course, there's a catch: You have to move it from the site, because Amtrak needs the space for parking. Somebody rescue this gem! (ABC10)
