Royer Park Footbridge Gets a Facelift
A 30-year-old bridge is being removed near downtown.
It will take locals a little longer on foot to get from the to now. The city has fenced off both entrances to the Library Footbridge and deemed it unsafe to cross.
The bridge removal began last week and a replacement footbridge will be constructed within two to three years if the city can find funds.
For almost 30 years, the bridge gave walkers access to cross Dry Creek from Royer Park to the Downtown Library. It was recently closed after March storms damaged its foundation, according to Carl Walker, senior engineer with the City of Roseville.

"Stream bank erosion caused the bridge to start leaning," he said.
The bridge demolition will cost approximately $45,000, which is being used from the transportation fund, according to city documents.

"The Library Bridge has been a fixture in Downtown Roseville for nearly 30 years" said Mayor Pauline Roccucci in a release. “But public safety is our foremost concern and that's why we need to remove the bridge right now.”
In replacing the bridge, the city will welcome public participation and a design competition. Details of the competition have not been announced yet.
“Replacement of the Library Bridge will be a key component in our efforts to revitalize Downtown Roseville,” Roccucci said. “Our Downtown Specific Plan also calls for a public amphitheater, creek walk, and bike path, all of which will create connections and make Downtown Roseville a place to see and be seen.”
