Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. The recently released 2021 Annual Summary from our Roseville Police Department (RPD) had heartening news for citizens concerned about crime. Overall crime in Roseville decreased by 1% in 2021. Violent crime decreased by 8%. RPD spokesman Rob Baquera credits the positive trend in part to RPD’s relationship with the community and the use of metrics to target recurring problem areas and times. (ABC 10)
  2. Our Roseville City Council recently approved modifications to two ordinances related to affordable housing projects in the city. The first change was made to Title 18, Subdivision Ordinance and concerns selling of accessory dwelling units as allowed under Assembly Bill 345. The second change was made to Title 19, Zoning Ordinance prioritizing affordable housing through the Housing Element 16 Program. Both ordinances are part of Roseville’s Municipal Code. The modifications were unanimously approved by the City Council and will go into effect immediately. (The Roseville Press Tribune)
  3. Three of Roseville’s high school baseball teams are having a smoking hot season this year with Woodcreek High and Roseville High leading the Capital Valley Conference, and Oakmont High is riding high in the number one slot for the Foothill Valley League. Both Woodcreek and Oakmont are undefeated, while Roseville is at 6-1 for league play. Check out the rest of the area standings and hear some strategy talk from some of the players. 4. What happens when a talented young author and an inspired artist, both with a heart for philanthropy, team up? Magic - in the form of a new children’s book set to release on Monday, April 11! Akshaj Mehta’s The Butterfly Effect tells the story of a young boy who learns how a good deed can cause a positive chain reaction. Beautifully illustrated by Alexa Bandala, a digital artist and communications specialist with KidsFirst in Roseville, the book is a lighthearted tale about “family, community and the power of compassion.” The book will be available on Amazon on Monday! Now you're in the loop and ready to head out the door on this Friday! Mr. Risse and I will be in the wilderness for the next four days, but you'll be in good hands with another of Patch Media's capable writers until I return for Wednesday's edition.

Have a great weekend, Roseville!

Kelly Risse

About me: My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School and majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. My husband and I loved growing up and raising our three boys here in the 'Ville. I have watched Roseville evolve from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and I love the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you in The Roseville Daily!
