Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. A hit-and-run driver crashed their vehicle into a parked car on Cadfael Court around 4:00 am on Monday and the Roseville Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect. Traffic cams captured a photo of the white, 2-door vehicle that appears to have a strange, airplane-shaped object on its roof. Anyone with pertinent information is urged to contact Traffic Sergeant Ryland at (916) 774-5000 #1 and reference case number 2022-5116. (RPD Facebook and CBS 13)
  2. The City of Roseville has spent a fair amount of time over the past few months on planning for the future in areas like parks and recreation, council election redistricting and revitalizing three commercial corridors. According to this article, and the comments of the city’s Public Information Officer, Helen Dyda, and our Economic Development Director, Melissa Anguiano, the city’s economic future is about to become the next big area of focus. Creating jobs in targeted industries, supporting the labor and talent needed for these jobs and providing a diverse array of housing choices will be the priorities in this new strategic plan. Learn more about the specifics in this piece. (ABC 10)
  3. Continuing their efforts to address homelessness in our region, the Placer County Planning Commission approved a recommendation for an extension of the temporary emergency shelter at the Placer County Government Center in North Auburn. The shelter, established in 2015, is operated by The Gathering Inn and currently accommodates up to 100 homeless individuals. The shelter has been in the spotlight recently as homeless persons not able to be accommodated inside the shelter have been camping outside the site, dismaying local residents. The commission recognized that the shelter extension and the camping nuisance were two different issues, and that not extending the shelter operations would only exacerbate the problem of homeless people not having a place to go.
