Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- State Assemblyman Kevin Kiley will have a challenger for the newly remapped 3rd Congressional District in the upcoming 2022 elections. Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones announced he will run for the seat that covers all of Placer County and parts of Sacramento, Nevada, El Dorado, Plumas, Sierra and Yuba Counties. This will be second time Jones makes a run for a state congressional post. He challenged Ami Bera in 2016 for the district centered in Elk Grove. (KCRA 3)
- Roseville City Councilman Scott Alvord made his own political plans known last Wednesday in an announcement outside Mo Joe’s Café on Pleasant Grove Boulevard. Alvord intends to run for the newly created Placer County Board of Supervisors District 2, which covers much of West Roseville, Lincoln and Sheridan. With all the new development and highway projects slated for the district, whoever wins the seat will certainly have their hands full. (Facebook Live)
- Greater Sacramento area movie buffs are going to have to watch their films indoors for a while after a fire broke out at the West Wind Sacramento 6 Drive-In movie theater off Highway 50 and Bradshaw Road on Saturday morning. There was significant damage to the lower level of the building that housed the concessions and arcade, but the upper story, where the expensive projection equipment is located, was only slightly affected. The hopes to reopen “soon.” The cause of the fire is unknown. (CBS 13 and ABC 10)
- Faux mayhem came to usually peaceful City of Auburn yesterday in a film shoot that took place at the iconic Ken Fox Statues on Auburn Ravine Road. Apparently, the huge cement warrior women will be featured in a war scene for Innervoice Media’s second episode in the horror series “Tales of the Wildermist.” Innervoice’s Creative Wonderlab opens this month and seeks to bring more Hollywood opportunities to Auburn. (Gold Country Media)
- You might think you’re the biggest San Francisco 49er fan, but a look at Bill McAnally’s ‘Niner memorabilia collection could have you reconsidering. KTXL’s Gary on the Go stopped by to check out the impressive display with Bill’s son, Alex McAnally (Bill was at Saturday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers). Besides Bill’s actual season seats from Candlestick Park, over 30 jerseys and huge photos that once decorated the VIP Club at Candlestick cover the walls. Check it out in this video segment. (FOX 40)
Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
