  1. All currently enrolled Sierra College students can ride free on the Placer and Nevada County Transit system. The “Ride Free With Your Sierra College Student ID” pilot program is a partnership between Placer County Transit (PCT), Roseville Transit, Auburn Transit, Nevada County Connects (NCC) and Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART). “Ride Free with Your Sierra College ID is increasing student access to public transit and lowering the cost to attend Sierra,” said Sierra College Superintendent/President Willy Duncan. “With the support of the Sierra College Foundation, our Board of Trustees, PCTPA, and now our local transit partners, we’re meeting the basic needs of our students through new programs like Ride Free that make higher education more accessible and affordable.” (YubaNet)
  2. Well, it has finally happened. The Purple Place in El Dorado Hills has closed its purple doors and is now looking for a new location. The restaurant owners couldn't come to terms with the landlord and have had to close. The lease is up on September 30, but they closed early because they had encouraged staff to find new positions when it became clear that lease negotiations were not going well. “We really believed that it would work out,” said restaurant owner Denise Hountalas. “The Purple Place belongs here. It’s very hard for us to think about moving The Purple Place.” They are currently seeking new digs in the El Dorado Hills or Folsom areas and hope to open again in the near future. 3. The Sierra College Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. William Syms as Dean of Equity and Completion for the college. Dr. Syms comes to them from Pasadena City College where he was an academic administrator in the Non-Credit Division and TRIO Programs as well as faculty, teaching First Year Seminar courses. He has a long history of positions working on restorative justice issues. “Thank you to the Board of Trustees, President Duncan, and the hiring committee for placing faith in my ability to provide leadership around equity at Sierra College. President Duncan has empowered a dynamic team of leaders with his clear vision for student success and I am excited to scale work with the group,” Dr. Syms said. (Roseville Today)
  4. On Sunday, August 14, Roseville Police responded to the area of Fortuna Drive and Afterglow Court on a report of a suspicious truck. This is a new neighborhood that is still under construction. When officers arrived they found two men with a truck that was filled with lumber. Upon questioning the men, officers found cause to search the vehicle, where they found controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Per Roseville Police "The two men, later identified as 42-year-old Hamid Nejad of Roseville and 51-year-old Fereidoon Ahmadi of Rocklin, were arrested on several charges including conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of stolen property, and possession of controlled substances."
