  1. Don't be alarmed (pun intended) if you hear the Union Pacific Railroad emergency notification siren around 12:00 noon on Monday, October 4th. The sound-off is a test to make sure all is in order in case of a real emergency. Did you know that there are several ways to make sure you get the alert in case of a local emergency? Check out this informative post and be prepared! (Roseville Fire Department Facebook)
  2. Noreen Wredberg of Granite Bay had herself a gem of a vacation last week. While hiking in Crater Diamonds State Park in Arkansas with her husband, she happened upon a 4.38-carat yellow diamond! (Not to be bitter, but the only things I seem to find on my hikes are blisters and poison oak) The rock is one of largest diamonds ever found in the park. The value of the diamond is yet to be determined. (Gold Country Media)
  3. An expansion of a Foresthill campground approved by state park commissioners on Thursday has nearby homeowners concerned about increased wildfire risk. The plan would add 142 campsites to the relatively small campground (36 spaces) in the Auburn State Recreation Area. Andrea Stehl, planning chief for California State Parks, explained that adding more legal campsites means less illegal camping, which is usually a much higher risk for fire. (CBS Sacramento)
  4. According to an announcement from Governor Gavin Newsom yesterday, a COVID-19 vaccine will be required for all K-12 students in California as soon as one is approved for use in children by the Federal Drug Administration. Students will still be able to claim religious or medical exemptions, as with currently existing vaccine mandates, but those guidelines are not yet in place for the COVID-19 vaccine. (KCRA 3)
