  1. Roseville and the greater Sacramento region had managed to stay out of the path of smoke from the Dixie fire and other wildfires to the north until yesterday just after noon. According to Emily Heller, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Sacramento office, the sudden infusion of smoke into the valley was caused by an inversion of warm air. The Air Quality Index (AQI) quickly shot up to unhealthy levels, reading at 158 on one downtown Sacramento monitor. The natural shift to more northerly winds in the coming months could bring more smoky days to the valley while wildfires continue to burn. (Sacramento Bee)

  4. Strong partnerships with several interconnected agencies and 20 years of planning have gone into the creation of the Placer County Conservation Program (PCCP), which was commemorated at a ceremony in Lincoln last week. The program is the first of its kind in the nation as it seeks to balance ecosystem and wildlife needs with future urban planning in Western Placer County and Lincoln. According to Placer County Board of Supervisors Chair and District 2 Supervisor Robert Weygandt, “PCCP is an extraordinary achievement in seeking balance between conservation for our precious habitats and responsible land development.”(Roseville Today)
  5. The latest directives from California health officials recommend universal masking indoors as infection rates and hospitalization from the delta variant of COVID-19 rise at an alarming rate. Many counties in the state have already recommended universal indoor masking in recent days. Over 90% of Californians live in areas that the Centers for Disease Control considers to currently have a substantial rate of spread of the virus. (KCRA3)
