- One of the stranger things to catch fire this season was a tree-trimming truck in Roseville on Tuesday afternoon. Roseville Fire crews had to act quickly to keep the flames from travelling along the truck's boom to a nearby home. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Fire and news crews caught some pretty dramatic footage of the incident. (CBS Sacramento and Roseville Fire Facebook)
- You know it's getting to be October when the Spirit Halloween Stores start popping up like whack-a-moles all over town. The seasonal retailer for costumes, decorations and other spooky necessities has three locations in our area this year: the corner of Douglas Blvd. and Sierra Gardens Dr. in Roseville, 5761 Five Star Blvd. in Roseville, and 6660 Lonetree Blvd. in Rocklin. (Roseville Today)
- Placer County Public Health (PCPH) has been recognized once again for its efforts in creating “dementia-friendly communities” and has been selected to receive a grant from the Healthy Brain Initiative Road Map Strategists initiative. The $41,219 award will be used to enhance the county's existing efforts; specifically to improve early detection and screening for Alzheimer's Disease in Placer County. Only eight counties in the nation are chosen as grant recipients. Placer County is the only recipient in California. (PlacerCounty.gov)
- I don't like to be to be a Judgy McJudgerton, but I'm going say that the rotten criminal of the day award definitely goes to the no-goodniks who stole $10,000 worth of equipment from Cal Fire and Pacific Gas & Electric crews in Auburn yesterday. The items were taken in a "smash and grab" from trucks parked at the Springhill Suites. If anyone sees the stolen equipment or has information about the theft, resist the urge to shake the culprits, saying "Dude, seriously?!" and call the Placer County Sheriff's Office investigators at (530) 889-7893. (CBS Sacramento)
- In some better news, starting Friday you will no longer need a reservation to visit Yosemite National Park as we enter the less crowded Fall season. How lucky are we that one of the most beautiful places on earth is within day-trip distance for us? Pro Tip: Be sure to always check the website for changing conditions in the park before any visit. Get outdoors! (recreation.gov)
