Spring has sprung and your local BMR Napa Auto Care is here to make sure your vehicle’s air conditioning is ready for action

It’s a pretty common thing that we see in the automotive repair business; most car owners don’t service their air conditioning until after it fails, often results in additional costs that could have been avoided by having your system checked out as soon as the weather turned warmer.  Maintaining your vehicles air conditioning system means that you always have enough refrigerant to properly do the job. Small leaks in the air conditioning system allow the refrigerant to escape and the system can’t cool the air as well.

Along with the refrigerant, a special oil circulates in the system. The oil lubricates air conditioning components, and keeps the seals resilient. Low refrigerant and lubricating oil means that the air conditioning parts will wear out prematurely, and we all know that air conditioning repairs can be costly in Sacramento.

Air conditioning service at both our Roseville and Antelope locations for BMR Napa AutoCare always begins with a visual inspection of the components for signs of damage or leaks. The compressor is driven by a belt from the engine, most often the serpentine belt, so it’s inspected for cracks or wear.

The air conditioning compressor and other components are checked for proper operation by our ASE Certified Technicians that are always ready to serve your needs at BMR Napa AutoCare Then comes the leak test. If a leak is detected, often in a hose or connection, it’s repaired and the vehicles system is retested.  Following the repair, BMR will also perform a temperature drop test to insure you be keeping cool when you head down the road for that spring and summer vacations and that your precious cargo will also be traveling at safe temperatures around town or on that long drive.

If needed, the old refrigerant is evacuated and the system is recharged with clean, fresh refrigerant. A final test insures that the air conditioner is working, and you’re on your way.

How often this should be done varies from vehicle to vehicle. It is typically every two years. Your vehicles owner’s manual will have the manufacturer’s recommendation and, of course if you stop by one of BMR Napa AutoCare’s locations or call us for an appointment our knowledgeable staff will be able to tell you.

The bottom line, don’t wait for several weeks down the road when the temperatures inch towards the triple digits, get your car in now to have its air conditioning system checked out BEFORE it fails, not only making you uncomfortable on your drive home one hot afternoon but usually resulting in much more costly repairs that are incurred from avoiding regular maintenance of your system.
