St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, USAA team up to raise funds for The Soldiers Project
Nothing succeeds like success. At least that’s what the good folks at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church figure as they prepare for the Third Annual Veterans Pancake Breakfast, set for Saturday, Sept. 21, in Roseville.
The event will benefit The Soldiers Project/Sacramento-Greater Placer, a non-profit organization which provides free, confidential psychological therapy to active-duty military and veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as their family members and loved ones.
All-you-can-eat golden brown pancakes and all the fixin’s will be served from 8-11 a.m.

Last year the food fest raised about $2,000 for The Soldiers Project, which was recently featured in a series of three public service announcements that aired on the local Fox television affiliate, Fox-40.
The upcoming event is also supported by key sponsor USAA, a 91-year-old institution what offers a variety of financial products and services to millions of people within the military community.

“Fundraisers like this pancake breakfast are what keep The Soldiers Project going,” said program director Becca Bettis. “Every penny stays here in the Sacramento-Placer region to continue our therapy with military men and women. Our only source of funding is through grants, donations and fundraisers.”
Besides pancakes, the Sept. 22 menu will include Brooksfield link sausage, juice, milk and regular or decaffeinated Starbucks coffee. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for children under 10 years of age. A discount will be available to veterans who provide identification. Groupon members should look for a discount offer arriving via email in the near future.
St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church is located at 1001 Stone Canyon Drive (at the corner of East Roseville Parkway) in Roseville. For more information about the breakfast, contact coordinator Mike Dindio at (916) 337-6331 or e-mail him at mdindio@me.com
The Soldiers Project/Sacramento, named in 2012 by the White House as one of the nation’s top 20 military service organizations, is comprised of about 45 volunteer therapists who last year gave nearly 1,000 hours of free treatment to soldiers and their families. Its unlimited services go beyond those provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs medical system.
