Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- Sierra Glen Drive will be renamed to honor fallen Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee who was killed in August at Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan during an evacuation operation. The resolution to rename the relatively new roadway in the Westpark neighborhood passed at the City Council meeting on Wednesday. Gee’s sister, Misty Fuoco, was presented with a prototype street sign during the meeting. Sgt. Gee was a former Roseville resident and Oakmont High School graduate. (Roseville Press Tribune)
- Eighteen year old Ally Solerno of Roseville is getting the word out about Alopecia Areata, a rare autoimmune disorder that causes severe hair loss. She just published a children’s book, Alisha and Alopecia, that is available now at Learning Express on Douglas Boulevard. The book is $10 and can be mailed for an addition $5 charge. Alopecia Areata affects up to one in every 1,000 people and currently has no cure. Solerno hopes her book give confidence to children battling the disease. (Gold Country Media)
- THE STUDIO Martial Arts & Fitness and several community sponsors have partnered together again this year to assemble Blessing Bags for needy children in nearby shelters and camps. They hope to surpass the 1,000 bags they put together last year as the group sees greater need in our area. The bags include essential hygiene items like toothpaste and lotion, warm clothing like scarves and gloves, and include notes of hope written by other children. Donations, either items or money, can be brought to THE STUDIO at 8200 Sierra College Boulevard in Roseville. (FOX 40)
- It might still be 2021, but Quarry Park Amphitheater in Rocklin is preparing for the 2022 concert season. Check out the acts already lined up for April through August. And, yes, you can buy tickets NOW! (Roseville Today)
- We knew it was coming, but it’s still hard to believe the time has come. The last Kmart in California will close its doors for last time Sunday. If you’re willing to make the approximately one hour drive up to Grass Valley, you can take one last nostalgic stroll down the aisles, waiting in breathless anticipation for that next Blue Light Special to drop (well, actually everything is kind of on “special” with discounts from 20% to 90% off). The building is slated to welcome a Target store, expected to open in the third quarter of 2022. (The Union)
