Sun City Cyclists Go the Distance
Cycling club members ride thousands of miles a year in and around Roseville.
If you live in Roseville, chances are you’ve seen the Sun City Roseville Cycling Club sporting bright yellow during the early morning hours.
The cycling club, which consists of about 150 members, is one of the many activities seniors can participate in at the age 55 and older residence.
“It’s a great club to be in,” club member Jack Ellison said. “Very active - we do a lot of things. There’s lots of socialization as there is exercise and riding. (There are a) number of parties and barbecues.”

Ellison said that he bikes around 5,000 miles per year.
Dory Zuchold is a relatively new member to the club. So far, she has traveled more than 1,000 miles in her first three months and said she’s having fun.

“We have a good time," she said. “It’s nice to (have) camaraderie.”
The cycling club has more than one route. They usually ride to coffee and donut shops around the area and their trips total around 20 miles on average, each day. A recent ride was supposed to be a trip to Starbucks at Foothills and Junction boulevards, but Zuchold said she just follows the leader.
“No idea,” she said when asked about where she was going. “Whoever the leader is takes us and we just follow.”
The group doesn't just ride around Roseville. They ride up to Auburn every Saturday and recently came back from a trip to the Buttes. They take trips to Guerneville, Monterey and even Reno.
“Last year’s Reno trip was very good,” Ellison said. “We have a very good committee that sets up a number of events. Last year we went to a baseball game. We had about three rides. Then we have a number of events. We have a dinner, we have lunches at different places … This year we’re going to get tickets to the rodeo.”
If there’s one club that can personify the saying “Go the distance,” the Sun City Roseville Cycling Club can do just that.
