Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. With a significant amount of rainfall to close 2021, Folsom Reservoir gained a substantial amount of water in a short period. Because of the Roseville's investments in groundwater management and technologically advanced water infrastructure, the city can replenish and extract water from aquifers underground. Instead of allowing excess water to spill out to the Pacific Ocean, Roseville took an initial delivery of 65-acre feet (about 22 million gallons) to replenish the aquifer beneath the City. To put that into context, one acre-foot is enough water to supply a home with a family of four annually. For more information about Roseville’s groundwater program, visit Roseville.ca.us/groundwater or visit Roseville.ca.us/waterfuture to learn more about Roseville’s water resource planning. (City of Roseville)
  2. An investigation into the death of an inmate at the California State Prison in Folsom is underway, according to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Around 6:53 a.m. on Saturday, Deandre A. Lewis was found unresponsive in his cell. He was later pronounced dead. The 37-year-old had been admitted from Contra Costa County in June 2018 to serve life with the possibility of parole. Authorities say Shamar L. Thornton, who was Lewis’ cellmate, is considered a suspect in this investigation. (KRON4)
  3. A SWEET day out in Folsom always includes a trip to Snooks, but along with the sweet chocolates, you can also enjoy some sweet music. Have you ever noticed the piano that sits outside of the store? It belonged to grandfather Snooks, who, apparently, was a bit of a banjo player, as well. The Folsom Historical Society partnered to help refurbish it and now you and I can play it any time we're in town! (I didn't say I could play it well.) (Good Day Sacramento)
  4. Tibetan monks have made several visits to Auburn since first appearing in 2001 and they are scheduled to return to the area next week. A medicine Buddha empowerment blessing by the Monks will be held Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 1279 High Street in Auburn. Medicine Buddha is described as a “doctor who helps heal illnesses and increase strength of mind and will to remove suffering and is the embodiment of the power of healing of all the Buddhas,” according to a news release. Gaden Shartse Monks will appear in Roseville on Monday, Jan. 17, at White Tara Empowerment Serenity Spa/Soul Yoga in the Renaissance Creek Center at 3984 Douglas Blvd., #150. Phone 916-797-8550 for information. (Gold Country Media)
  5. The Gathering Inn is looking to build community support for a 16-acre homeless shelter site at 4242 Cincinnati Ave in Rocklin. The petition states that the project is in an unincorporated area. The project would combine Roseville and Auburn into a single location with 200 emergency beds and a 240 micro-units of affordable housing and services. It would be a closed campus with security according to the Gathering Inn. (Roseville Today)
