Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:
- At its December 20 meeting, the Roseville Independent Redistricting Commission selected six maps from the 23 submitted by the public to be part of the final public review before a final district map is chosen. Six public meetings will be held in January at five different locations around the city to get further public input on the final set of maps. The final map will be selected at the January 24 Independent Redistricting Commission public meeting. It will outline the boundaries for the five Roseville City Council districts until 2031. - The National Weather Service is predicting winter storms to arrive this week and they are expected to bring much needed rain to the region. For tips on how to prepare for winter storms, visit here. (City of Roseville)
- Rocklin police are asking the public for help in finding the person responsible for a deadly hit-and-run that happened earlier this year. Officers responded to a call on Sierra College Boulevard, near Schriber Way just before 11 p.m. on Feb. 4. When they arrived they found 30-year-old Trevor Swahn deceased at the scene. There is still no description of the vehicle that hit Swahn, but Rocklin police said it would have front-end damage. Police are asking for anyone who may have seen what happened to contact them. - A Secret Santa recently gave the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Adventure Club thousands of dollars to donate to deserving families in the community. The anonymous donor called to pay their bill, and then asked to donate an additional $2,000 to Adventure Club families. Administrative Technician Bryanne McCown made the calls to the five families that were selected to benefit from the donation and said the reactions were priceless. “Every single parent I spoke with was beyond appreciative of this gift and made sure to let me know that their child/children truly enjoy our program,” adds Bryanne. “I am so glad I was able to help spread more joy this holiday season thanks to the generosity of our Secret Santa!” (City of Roseville)
- Social media and a Good Samaritan have helped Carol’s Market and Deli in Newcastle after a cancelled order almost put them $3,000 in the hole. Owner Tracy Ballard said she was devastated after she was left with barbecued ribs, chicken, tri-tip and brisket for 350 people after a large local company cancelled their order four hours before the delivery was scheduled. Ballard had six employees working on the large order, including two people working overnight to make sure the meat was barbecued and smoked properly. After overhearing her plight, a good neighbor went on Facebook and shared the situation at Carol’s. By Wednesday morning, the 48 racks of ribs were sold! Ballard said Carol’s still has a lot of food left to sell. Carol’s is selling barbecued chicken, tri-tip and brisket as well as potato and macaroni salads – all a part of the original order. Carol's Market and Deli is located at 235 Taylor Road in Newcastle. For more information, call 916-663-2120. (Auburn Journal)
