The sun may peek out a little today, but we're looking at morning fog and mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. The expected high is 62 degrees with an overnight low of 48. Winds should be barely noticeable at around 3 mph while humidity should be about 72% during the day.

Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Innovative home exercise equipment is set to open in suite 193 of the Galleria on December 9th. Tonal's fitness system combines around 150 different pieces of gym equipment into one product and utilizes artificial intelligence to set personalized workouts. The showroom encourages people to actually try the equipment on site before buying. They are hiring and training staff now to prepare for the opening. (Sacramento Business Journal/Sacramento INNO)
- "You know Dasher, and Dancer, and Prancer, and Vixen ..." But do you know about Robber, and Scammer, and Snatcher, and the other less reputable characters of the holiday season? Luckily our good friend, Roseville Police Public Information Officer Rob Baquera, has some great tips to keep the Grinches (mixing metaphors, sorry) from ruining your holly, jolly fun this year. (Rocklin and Roseville Today)
- The past several months have seen an increase in wildlife/human encounters in Northern California, due in part to the unprecedented fire season. This recent black bear encounter in Olympic Valley brings many questions to mind. Like who taught this bear such lovely manners? And how to open a door? And how to use hand sanitizer?! (Roseville Patch)
- President Joe Biden signed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure package on Monday, prompting many in California to wonder what’s in it for us? In this interview, Congressman John Garamendi, D-Davis, outlined some of the things our state can expect from the bill, including $8 billion for water storage, $384 million for electric vehicle charging networks, funding for much needed upkeep on bridges, funding for roadway repair, expansion of affordable internet and jobs to implement all of the above. Roseville Patch Notebook:
In my continuing, tireless, never-ending quest to keep you informed (ok, a little dramatic), here are some more cool things coming up in Roseville that you may want to add to your holiday season calendar:
- Is there anything cozier than sitting wrapped in a blanket, warm beverage nearby, maybe a fire or candle, with a good book open on your lap? Maybe add a kiddo on that lap if you’ve got one in the house? Our Roseville Public Library is adding even more incentive to read during these chilly days (like we need any!) with a Holiday Reading Challenge. Register as an individual, a family, a classroom or other group and track your reading hours. Get to five hours by December 31st and you will be entered to win a Cozy Cocoa Bundle. I would say “take my money now” but it’s totally free! Nov. 21-Dec. 31
- Our friends at the Galleria at Roseville are making holiday magic a little more accessible for families with special needs children by offering two Sensory Friendly Santa sessions. Our sensitive kiddos can avoid the long lines and sensory onslaught while having a chance to visit with a specially trained Santa. Register ahead for a time slot. Insider tip: Santa will visit with special needs adults too! Dec. 5 & 12 9:30 am-10:30 am
- Yesterday’s list of City of Roseville/Downtown Partnership sponsored events did not include Breakfast With Santa on December 4th and the Grinchmas Stroll on December 10th, as they are currently sold out. I am adding them today, however, as I’ve discovered there is a waitlist for both. According to social media chatter from the City, they may add more capacity to the Grinchmas Stroll. And there is always a possibility of cancellations for Breakfast With Santa.
- If the City of Roseville Gingerbread House Contest does not fill your need for a baked goods creative outlet, sign up for a day of Gingerbread mania at the Roseville Sports Center Gym on December 18th. All ages can construct and decorate a tasty holiday house while leaving the mess in the gym (mom and dad say “yes!”) at the Holiday Gingerbread House Factory. Or, if you’re the ambitious type and do your best work under pressure, you can sign up for the Holiday Gingerbread Showdown: LIVE BUILD competition where you will have 45 minutes to build a masterpiece worthy of winning. Tickets for the LIVE BUILD were going fast at press time yesterday, so get on that right away if you want to enter. Dec. 18 3:00 pm-5:00 pm
