Here are the top four stories today in Roseville:
- Our Roseville Police Department’s Annual Summary report includes lots of useful and interesting crime and traffic statistics, a budget breakdown and more. The intersection of Douglas Boulevard and Sunrise Avenue topped the list of locations where most of the vehicle collisions occur in our fair city. Check out the other nine intersections most likely to see traffic accidents in this article. You can also do a deeper dive by following the embedded link to the full report. (ABC 10)
- The build-to-rent housing model, small bungalows on a single parcel that rent like apartments, is just one of the concepts cities and homebuilders are utilizing to address a lack of affordable housing. Roseville may have one such development leasing as early as this summer, according to Towne Development of Sacramento Division President Jeff Pemstein. Estia Roseville would include 209 one- and two-bedroom units on 23 acres off Baseline Road. Amenities like a clubhouse with fitness center, a car wash and dog washing stations are part of what makes these “horizontal apartments” feel like “resort living.” (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
- A Polar Plunge last Saturday at Folsom Lake raised $69,945 for Special Olympics of Northern California (SONC). Local news personality Melanie Hunter was on hand to usher the enthusiastic bathers into the snowmelt-temperature water on the 50-degree day. The costume contest (no wetsuits here!) and live Johnny Cash covers played by a local musician added to the festive atmosphere as participants reveled in being able to hold the event once again after two years of pandemic-related cancellations. There are approximately 24,000 athletes of all abilities supported by SONC. (Gold Country Media)
- According to this article, it sounds like the former Roseville Cyclery on Vernon Street is making a smooth transition as it comes under the roof of California bike shop chain Mike’s Bikes. The Cyclery’s owner, Oliver Bell, chose to sell his independent operation to Mike’s Bikes because he liked its ethics and was assured the company would treat his former employees fairly. Bell will stay on as the store’s manager. It sounds like the new ownership plans to continue all the community relationships and support that made the store a much loved hub of local cyclers and the city in general. (Roseville Press Tribune)
