Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:

  1. We’re another step closer to adopting a new City Council District Map after the Roseville Independent Redistricting Commission selected a modified version of Draft Map B (now called B-1) out of the six drafts that were under consideration. This draft is posted on the city’s website, available for public comment for the next 30 days, after which it will be considered for formal adoption by the Commission. There will be five public hearings, one in each of the city’s existing districts during the 30-day period. Paul Frank, Chair of the Commission thanked the public for its participation in this process. “The level of engagement by our residents has been inspiring and extremely helpful,” he said. 2. Amazon is opening one of its high-tech Amazon Fresh supermarkets in Roseville, moving into the former Toys ‘R Us building at 6780 Stanford Ranch Road. The store will carry traditional mainstream supermarket items, some at discount prices. A cool feature of these stores is the Dash Cart. This cart uses technology to ring up items as shoppers select them from the aisle. And no more long checkout lines either – shoppers can use an app to pay for their selections as they walk out of the store. You’ll be able to ask Alexa for help as you cruise the aisles and, of course, there will be an Amazon return center. The remodel is going on now and Amazon is being secretive about the opening date. Stay tuned, shoppers! (Subscription: Sacramento Bee)
  3. Rebecca Chenoweth, a local attorney and community activist, has thrown her hat into the ring to run for the newly redrawn District 5 California Assembly seat. District 5 will encompass Roseville and Auburn (and just about all between) in the upcoming state elections. She won’t be running against our incumbent Assemblyman, Kevin Kiley, however, as he plans a run for the District 3 U.S. Congressional seat. Chenoweth currently serves as Chief Operations Officer and Associate Director at Stand Up Placer, a non-profit supporting survivors of human trafficking and exploitation. She has practiced law for 25 years, acted as a former Deputy County Counsel and worked with the Public Guardian and Child Protective Services. (Gold Country Media)
  4. Commuters and folks who just want to hang out in Folsom, Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove will have a much easier and safer drive in the future. Progress is being made on the Capital Southeast Connector Project with the completion of a four-lane bridge over Alder Creek and the realignment of Prairie City and White Rock Roads. When finished, the 34-mile expressway will serve as an alternative to badly congested Highways 50 and 99. Segments of the project are completed as funding becomes available. Check out the informational video on the expressway at the end of this article. (Roseville Today)

Kelly Risse

About me: My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School and majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. My husband and I loved growing up and raising our three boys here in the 'Ville. I have watched Roseville evolve from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and I love the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you in The Roseville Daily!
