Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. Families of fallen US service members came together with the Rotary Club of Granite and the Sacramento Blue Star Moms at Granite Bay Community Park Sunday to mark Gold Star Family Day. The national day of remembrance (formerly Gold Star Mothers' Day) is an opportunity for families to mourn and heal, while ensuring that "those who gave all" for our country are not forgotten. A new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, the result of a local 2-year fundraising campaign, will be dedicated in Roseville Cemetery on October 30th. More news on that event will be announced soon. (ABC10.com KXTV and woodywilliams.org)
  2. Roseville is getting a new venue for live entertainment with the opening of Goldfield Trading Post at 238 Vernon Street (in the former Ninja Sushi location) this weekend. The kickoff show on Friday with The Expendables is sold out, but there is a solid lineup to choose from in the event calendar; including some shows for all ages. Be sure to look closely when purchasing tickets as the website lists shows for both the Roseville and Sacramento Goldfield locations. (Goldfieldtradingpost.com)
  3. Placer County native daughter Ashlee Smith knows what it's like to lose everything to wildfire. Smith's family lost their home in the Angora Fire of 2007 when she was just 8 years old. Now in her 20s, she has facilitated the donation of over 3 million toys to children affected by fires through her non-profit, Ashlee's Closet. On Sunday, over 80 children, victims of the Caldor Fire, were made a little happier with toys from Ashlee's Closet. (KCRA 3)
  4. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a third "booster" dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for "individuals 18 through 64 years of age whose frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 puts them at high risk of serious complications of COVID-19 including severe COVID-19," according to the FDA release. The booster was also approved for people who have specific health conditions that put them at risk for severe complications from COVID-19. Approval for boosters of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines is expected to follow soon. (Newsweek)
