Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. Placer County Sheriff’s Deputies arriving to investigate “suspicious activity” at a Loomis home on Monday encountered an armed male running from the home after a stand-off lasting several hours. Officers contacted the man and shot him before discovering the bodies of Kathryn Lynch and Jerry Upholt inside the residence. The wounded suspect is expected to survive. Law enforcement is investigating the incident and had released no further details as of press time Tuesday. (Subscription: Sacramento Bee and KRCA 3)
  2. The east side is getting a Jersey Mike’s Subs today with a new location opening in Rocky Ridge Town Center on Douglas Boulevard. While this location is not participating in the Special Olympics fundraiser mentioned below (see events), it’s showing it's community spirit through corporate partnership fundraising for the U.C. healthcare system. (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal and Jersey Mike’s website)
  3. A recent Placer County Board of Supervisors meeting checked in on the county’s progress implementing the 2021-29 housing element. Based on the Regional Housing Needs Assessment, the element calls for Placer County to allocate 7,854 units over the life of the plan. Over five percent of that target was completed in the first year, including 44 units of affordable housing, 468 permits issued, 14 low-income level units, 30 moderate-income level units and 424 above moderate-income level units. Other efforts in the works were shared by Placer County Community Development Resource Agency Deputy Director Shawna Purvines. Read on to learn more. (Gold Country Media)
  4. The Foo Fighters, one of the headlining bands slated for Sacramento’s mega-huge Aftershock rock festival in October, have cancelled all their scheduled tour dates as they grieve Foo drummer Taylor Hawkins who died Friday while touring with the band in Colombia. The cause of death has not been disclosed, although a preliminary toxicology report noted ten chemical substances in Hawkins’ body. Hawkins, 50, had been with the band for 25 years. (ABC 10) and NPR)
  5. There’s just about nothing I hate more than being the bearer of bad news, but our water situation this year is not looking good, folks. In fact, our snowpack is in worse shape now than it was at this time last year. View the actual measurements in this article to get an idea of what we are up against. And keep up your conservation efforts. (Roseville Today)

From our sponsor:

Where should you invest as a Roseville resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there’s a new investment Roseville residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it’s fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn’t new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
